Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
