Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
