The team Veterans Over-35s are situated in southern Manchester and compete in the Cheshire-based Veterans Division Premier Division.

The squad list this season includes 9 ex- Premier League footballers, with a total nearly 1,800 top-flight appearances.

"It's a little unusual but then, I love running and just go inside - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"The running is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

In addition to Cisse's 6 goals on debut, Ireland has scored eight in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while George Boyd scored 5 on his debut appearance and Joleon Lescott, a defender by trade, scored a hat-trick in one match as a striker.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced former Latics defender Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his young boy who Heskey was.

"I think I was a bit awestruck facing him to be honest.

"We competed well for a good twenty minutes but then we had a player sent off and it was tough.

"Our group literally have not ceased talking about it - I was calling my mother and brother on the way home.

"They were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a group of normal guys.

"Now we are eager for the second match."
