Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can expect finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
